Playing in a teams event recently, South opened 1♠ and rebid 2♠ over North’s 2. At one table North passed South’s rebid of 2♠ – not a pleasant contract. At the other, North bid 3, raised to 4 by South. Unfortunately, East led his singleton spade so away went two clubs; the second was ruffed but declarer now made his contract.
